Context and justification
of the virtual hub

A proactive environmental network

Founded in 1948, IUCN is the largest and most diverse environmental network in the world with over 400 member organizations and over 17,000 experts.

An innovative program in West Africa

The EU's Regional Indicative Program has enabled, with ECOWAS and WAEMU, an action to support the preservation of biodiversity, governance and climate change.

Building a regional 2.0 dynamic

This virtual hub aims to facilitate and promote collaboration and sharing between actors while promoting the practices, knowledge and experiences generated.

Strengthening of the actors
with the PAPBio Program

« Integrated protection of diversity and fragile mangrove ecosystems in West Africa and their enhanced resilience to climate change » in 9 West African countries is the objective of this project signed in July 2019 under European Union funding and implemented in particular by IUCN.

Three results are expected

  1. Socio-economic and sectoral activities in the landscapes are coordinated in an integrated manner;
  2. Effective protected area management systems are developed and operational;
  3. Riparian populations derive sustainable benefits from PAs and are more resilient to climate change.

Together we promote an inclusive approach
to biodiversity conservation
